SIEB & MEYER Presents Extended SD4x Product Family at SPS 2024
Press releasesDrive controller for high-speed applications with new performance classes
SIEB & MEYER has further expanded its SD4x product family. From November 12 to 14, 2024, visitors of the SPS trade show in Nuremberg have a chance to experience the new variants and features of the SD4S, SD4B and SD4M series. The frequency converters for high-speed applications offer numerous advantages for users, for example, optimized performance, higher speeds and lower motor heating without additional sine-wave filters.
Among other products, SIEB & MEYER will be showcasing the now complete performance range of the SD4S in Nuremberg. The Lueneburg based experts for control and drive electronics have used the increased processor performance to raise the maximum output frequency to 4,000 Hz for synchronous motors and 6,000 Hz for asynchronous motors. New control functions enable optimized operation of IPM motors. The additional reluctance torque available for these motors is optimized in real time, independent of the operating point. Thanks to the extensive communication interfaces such as CANopen, Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherCAT, Powerlink and Profinet IO, the drive controllers can be seamlessly integrated into a wide range of applications. The drivemaster4 parameterization software has been further developed and supports the user from system design to troubleshooting.
Multi-level frequency converters for minimal motor heating
The SIEB & MEYER three-level frequency converters of series SD4M reveal their strengths in the field of turbo compressors and turbo blowers. These systems benefit from the low motor heating combined with the high system efficiency. At a 24/7 full-load operation, the latter causes noticeable energy savings and short payback periods. In addition, the overall system can be produced at lower costs and with a more compact construction volume because motor chokes and sine-wave filters are not necessary. SD4M also offers the function for controlling IPM motors. The different device variants are available with AC or DC supply and cover a power range of 70 … 500 kVA. Thereby, the DC versions are suited to generator applications such as flywheel or micro gas turbines.
Angle-synchronous operation of multiple high-speed motors
The compact drive controller SD4B is ideal for use as a highly dynamic servo drive for rotary and linear low-voltage servomotors. It also optimizes the operation of high-speed low-voltage synchronous and asynchronous motors.
In the high-speed range, the drive controller enables sensor-based operation of motors with a superimposed synchronization function based on 24 V synchronization signals. This allows several high-speed motors to be operated in master-slave mode with angular synchronization, which is particularly advantageous in optical applications. In this way, several high-speed motors can be operated at a synchronized angle in master/slave mode, which is helpful for example in the field of optical systems. The robust speed control also allows reliable operation with high mass inertia ratios of up to 1:100 between motor and tool.
