Drive Controllers up to 599 Hz of the SD4x Family

Press releases

Highest Control Dynamics without Dual-use Restrictions

Simple export processes for globally operating customers: SIEB & MEYER has expanded its SD4x product family with drive controllers limited to 599 Hz, which applies to both hardware and software. This way, the devices are not covered by the dual-use regulation 3A225. A special advantage: the limitation does not reduce the control performance.

The dual-use regulation 3A225 concerns electronic components that can be used for both civil and military purposes. This includes high-dynamic frequency converters and servo drives with frequencies of 600 Hz and more. By means of the regulation, the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (Bundesamt für Wirtschaft und Ausfuhrkontrolle, short BAFA) aims to prevent unchecked use of these technologies in weapons or military high-performance systems

The drive controllers of drive generation SD4x by SIEB & MEYER are optimized for high-speed applications. Typically, they must provide rotating field frequencies > 599 Hz for this purpose. This also means that the devices fall under the dual-use regulation 3A225 and therefore are subject to country-specific export restrictions

In order to make the export processes easier for the customers, SIEB & MEYER provides product variants with the hardware and software limited to 599 Hz. However, the user still benefits from the high control dynamics of the SD4x family. "The high-dynamic control integrated in our drive controllers offers significant performance advantages for mechanical engineers even in applications with rotating field frequencies < 599 Hz," explained Torsten Blankenburg, CTO at SIEB & MEYER. "This applies to high-dynamic frequency converter as well as to servo drive applications."
